CUBAN SALSA TURN PATTERNS

The original form of Salsa from Cuba. Dancers move around each other in a natural way, rather than the straight lines of cross-body. It's sexy & earthy & can include intricate turn patterns.

RUEDA DE CASINO

Rueda de Casino is a lively popular Cuban dance form in which couples partner dance in a circle and perform routines that are called by a leader.

SALSA SUELTA

Salsa Suelta means 'loose Salsa'....salsa danced without a partner. Similar to Rueda De Casino (see above), Salsa Suelta is initiated when people want to party and dance together as a larger group, but instead of dancing in a circle as in Rueda, Salsa Suelta is danced in lines.

With an emphasis on step routines combined with an imaginative variety of gestures and moves, salsa suelta is an easy going dance style that can be learned as you go. Because there is no partner involved it can be danced:
• in mixed groups large and small
• by yourself
• when you want to break apart in regular salsa dancing
• as a way to teach salsa steps and salsa choreographies

The steps, routines, and changes are initiated by a leader who can direct the action using a variety of techniques including: - calling out the name of the moves - hand gestures - demonstrating with their body. Leaders repeat the steps and moves long enough for followers to catch on. Followers imitate what the leader is doing and change steps when the leader changes.

THREESOMES

'Threesomes' is about dancing with more than just the traditional one man and one woman. There are many other possibilities such as one man dancing with two, three, and even four women, and two men dancing with one woman. These are brilliant displays of leading and following, along with a lot of creativity and having fun. Will open up your eyes to a whole new world of dancing possibilities...

DANCE TECHNIQUE, STYLING & TIMING

Salsa dancing is so much more than turn patterns. Body movement (shoulders, ribcage, arms, pelvis) and styling enable you to express yourself more fully to the music and makes your dancing stand out from the crowd. Good dance technique enable you to lead and follow effortlessly and execute your moves with precision and grace on the dancefloor. An appreciation and understanding of the rhythms underlying Cuban music enable you to enrich your dancing and interpretation of the music..

OTHER CUBAN DANCE FORMS:

SON

The precursor to salsa dating back to the 1920's. Son is elegant and graceful. It is based on contra-tiempo rhythms.

RUMBA

Rumba has Afro-Cuban roots & is danced as a form of improvisation. Dance forms include: YAMBU (slower dance for couples), GUAGUANCO (couples dance), COLUMBIA (men's dance). Many of the moves can be used when you want to break apart in regular salsa dancing.

CHA CHA CHA

Popular triple step dance, danced with a Cuban rather than the stylized Latin-American version.

OTHER LATIN DANCE FORMS:

MERENGUE

Merengue (from the Dominican Republic), is one of the easier Latin dances, with a simple 1,2 rhythm. Most Latin parties include a splash of Merengue to create a party vibe.

BACHATA

Bachata (from the Dominican Republic), is sensual & relaxed. The movements include a sexy hip lift!

REGGAETON

Reggaeton is an upbeat Latin music with a mix of rapping. It is influenced by beats of plena, bomba, reggae and hip hop. The dancing is raw, sexy and energetic.
